Privacy policy

Perigee (perigee.info) is a free, open-source viewer of objects in orbit, made by David Fugère-Lamarre. It has no account, no advertising and sets no cookies. Every position is computed in your browser. This page lists everything that leaves your device or stays on it.
Visit counting (GoatCounter)
Page views are counted with GoatCounter, an open-source, privacy-friendly analytics service. Each page load sends GoatCounter the page address, the referring site and your screen width; from the request it records the browser, the operating system, the language and the country. GoatCounter uses no cookies or other browser storage, and does not store IP addresses or the full user agent: it uses the IP address only to find the country, and to avoid counting a visit twice it keeps a random identifier in memory for at most 8 hours. Only aggregated counts are kept, and only the maintainer sees them. Details: GoatCounter's privacy policy.
If you block the GoatCounter script (with a content blocker, for example), the site works the same.
Problem reports (Web3Forms)
The Report button sends nothing until you submit the form. It then sends, through Web3Forms, which relays it by e-mail to the maintainer: your message, the report type, your e-mail address only if you give it, and the context listed in the form (the page address, the site version, the language, the window size and the rendering quality with the name of your graphics processor). Reports are used only to fix the site and answer you. Details: Web3Forms' privacy policy.
Music (SoundCloud)
The music panel loads NASA's playlist from SoundCloud only when you open it. From then on SoundCloud receives your requests and may set its own cookies, under SoundCloud's privacy policy. Nothing is loaded from SoundCloud while the panel stays closed.
Hosting (GitHub Pages)
The site and its data are served by GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub receives your IP address and browser details when you load a file, and may log them for security, under the GitHub privacy statement. Your browser never contacts the data providers (CelesTrak, NASA/JPL Horizons, NOAA): the data are mirrored on the same site.
What stays on your device
The site keeps a few settings in your browser. They never leave it, and you can clear them with the site data:
- Local storage: the time zone you chose, the rendering quality and its last screen resolution, the visual effects you switched off, and whether the music panel is open.
- Session storage (this tab only): the seed of the illustrative Earth clouds, and the camera position kept across an automatic refresh.
- Cache (Service Worker): the site, data, textures and models already downloaded, so it opens faster and works offline.
Your rights and contact
Perigee does not sell, share or combine data, and holds none about you apart from the reports you send. To ask about a report, or have it deleted, write through the Report button or open an issue on GitHub. Any change to this policy is recorded in the site's public history.
